Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has condemned the decision by the Government of Maharashtra to declare students of Muslim Madrassas as “out of school” children. In a statement at the JIH headquarters in New Delhi the Secretary General of Jamaat – Engineer Mohammed Salim termed the move as unconstitutional and in violation of both Article 29 and 30 of the Constitution of India. He said that the decision is a brazen attempt by the Fadnavis government to implement the saffron agenda of wiping out the religious identity of Muslims in India.
Engineer Salim emphasized that: “Madrassas, Vedic Pathshalas and educational institutions imparting religious instruction have been exempted under the Right of Children to Free and Compulsory Education (Amendment) Act 2012. This allowance is proof that the Government of India recognizes the Muslim Madrassas as an institution of learning – so where is the question of it being a non-school? We will be forced to move court if the government does not respect our rights guaranteed by the Constitution”: said the Secretary General JIH.
