Complete ban on liquor will be in interest of countrymen Jamaat-e-Islami Hind

New Delhi, April 21: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has demanded the central and state governments to impose a complete ban on liquor for the sake of multi-pronged welfare and development of the country and countrymen.

Mohammad Salim Engineer, Secretary General of Jamaat said that the liquor deaths and incidents and expenditure of government’s energy and loss of state resources on treatment of wounded people and police and legal actions are perhaps far bigger than the profit that the country gets from liquor business.

Even if supposedly the profit is bigger than the loss, the silent destruction of individuals, families, morals and characters of the society, peace, educational progress and economic betterment cannot be weighed in currency.

Jamaat’s Secretary General further said that the nation’s conscience is against liquor and this is evident from the fact that Bihar government has banned liquor, Tamil Nadu chief minister has promised similar ban if she returns to power, Shiv Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray has demanded Maharashtra government to stop water supply to breweries in Marathwada region, people in Jodhpur are continuously protesting against opening of liquor shops, a former MLA of Rajasthan sacrificed his life in Jaipur recently while holding fast-unto-death protest against liquor and Prime Minister himself comes from a state where liquor is banned.

There is a need that cutting across party affiliations, all Members of Parliament, Members of Assemblies, Representatives of corporations and leaders of all political and non-political organizations and eminent personalities of all religions raise their voice against the harms of liquor and demand a complete ban on it so that governments could be impressed and convinced for a complete ban on liquor in the larger interest of the society and for the fulfilment of Guiding Principles of the Constitutions and the road is paved for a peaceful and clean environment in the country.
