January 20, 2018

Former Union Minister Saifuddin Soz on Tuesday said that: “It should be a matter of great concern to all Indians, irrespective of their religious denominations, that Jamat-e- Islami Hind(JIH) is extremely fearful about growing fascism in India and in its opinion, the future of democracy is bleak in India.’’

Soz said:When I saw the (Jamaat) statement, I felt alarmed on this development.” Soz said he has known Jamat-e- Islami Hind as one of the most transparent Muslim organizations in India, showing utmost respect to the Constitution of India.

“JIH had all along taken the position that since all people are equal before the Constitution of India, no community or individual should be fearful about the future,” Soz said, adding: “But this organization too has expressed apprehensions that the future of India’s democracy is not safe and the present dispensation has decided openly to promote majoritarianism and all minorities are at the receiving end.”

Saifuddin Soz had been India’s Minister of Water Resources in India’s 14th Lok Sabha and Minister of Environment and Forests in the 1990s.
