GIO Karnataka State Conference concludes successfully in Mangalore

September 13, 2019

Mangalore, 08 Sep: The Girls Islamic Organization of India (GIO) marked ten years of their formation by conducting an impressive GIO State Conference in the Town Hall, Mangalore, Karnataka. The theme of the conference was “Al Ihya (The Revival) – Revisiting Ideas for Change”.

The inaugural address to the GIO cadre was delivered by Janab S. Ameenul Hasan (Vice President, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind). He said: “We are confronted with two challenges. One is the external challenge of aggressive communalism which has grown and permeated deep in society. How should we counter this threat? How can we bridge the chasm that has developed in society? GIO should reorient the agenda of discussion and talk about the real and genuine problems of the country. Jamaat has included this as part of its policy-program and wants to address the Indian society. The second is the internal challenge of the Muslim community. It seems Muslims are afraid and in despair. We must give them hope, optimism and determination. You must concentrate on education and run a literacy-drive. You must serve people and offer them education-assistance. You must clear the misunderstandings about Muslims and Islam and discharge the noble responsibility of “Dawah”. And over and above all, you must become good Muslims and carry out your “tarbiyah and tazkiyah”. You must be strong in worship, spirituality and “zikr”. You must read the Quran with understanding. May Allah make us all the “Da’ees of His Deen” and also play a positive role in our country”.

Also addressing the GIO State Conference was Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Co-Secretary – Mohtarma Rahmatunnisa who said: “ I congratulate GIO for this program. We must understand that the Islamic Movement works on the basis of the Quran and the Sunnah. Islam needs to be interpreted in a manner that makes it relevant for today’s times. We need to focus on solutions rather than problems. It is the job of every Muslim to enjoin good and forbid evil. You should implement 3 D’s. Dream big, Dare to accept challenges and Dedicate yourself to the path of Islam and the mission of “Iqamat e Deen”.

The program began with the blessings of Allah (SWT). It was convened by Sisters Syeda Noushaba and Arshiya Fatima Tanzil and continued with the recitation of Surah Hajj, Ayat 78, by Ayesha Afreen, Hassan. It was followed with the hoisting of the GIO flag at 8:50 am at the patio of Town Hall, Mangalore. Then a street play was conducted by the team of GIO Bangalore with a heartfelt message of “Equality for women” – Sab Barabar, Sab Barabar”. Be it men or women rich or poor, no racism, no discrimination, we all are one. They were even successful in imbibing the message of female feticide and the importance of a life of a woman in the society, about educating them and how women should utilize her education towards the betterment of people with the word of Islam.

The programme continued with the formal gathering of the State Conference marking the successful completion of 10 years of GIO. Sister Umaira Banu – President GIO Karnataka welcomed the delegates.
