Jamaat condemns violence against Dalits and minorities, blames government for deteriorating law and order situation

The President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari expressed deep apprehension over the rising incidents of violence against Dalits and minorities in the country and blamed the government for the deteriorating law and order situation in the country. Maulana Umari said that we are not against anybody who has veneration towards the cow but they must not take the law in their hands and commit violent atrocities on others. Earlier the JIH Secretary General – Muhammad Salim Engineer said that ever since the NDA government took power at the Center, these racial chauvinists and anti-social elements have become emboldened and belligerent.

The silence of our Prime Minister too has not helped matters. Jamaat emphasizes that all human beings are born equal and hold equal status. Racial superiority and racial supremacy is a scourge to society and must be eliminated. All human beings should be respected and unity of mankind should be promoted. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind calls for an effective check on atrocities against Dalits. The guilty should be punished in accordance with the law and the administration and police should be made accountable. Commenting on the economic situation of the country Salim Engineer said that we are worried over the fast deteriorating economic situation in the country causing great misery to the common man.

The unusually long recession has paralyzed the whole market; inflation and rising prices have made, even the essential commodities unaffordable for common man and unemployment is creating wide scale unrest among youth. Net exports are plunging with an alarming rate and have dwindled to almost half in just two years of the present government. Steep decline is being noted in crucial employment-intensive sectors like agriculture, trade and manufacturing and no concrete plan seems to exist to rejuvenate and ensure growth in these sectors. The investment in the country is going down and new opportunities of investments are disappearing. Policies like disinvestment of public sector enterprises and other national assets and induction of foreign direct investment (FDI) in critical sectors is also causing mayhem in the national economy.

The Secretary General of JIH also expressed concern over nearly 10,000 Indian workers stranded in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia as they lost their jobs with the Saudi government forced to cut down on construction projects due to plummeting oil prices. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind hopes that the government of India will bring back these workers at the earliest and take prompt measures in rehabilitating them by giving them adequate financial assistance.
