New Delhi: The President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari has expressed satisfaction at the peaceful conclusion of the gathering assembled by various organizations in Ayodhya. In a statement issued to the media the JIH President said:

‘’We are relieved at the peaceful conclusion of the gathering called by various organizations in Ayodhya. Initially there was apprehension that the large gathering may turn unruly and violent and may result in an unpleasant situation. However those fears proved unfounded and credit must go to the people of this country for not giving into exploitation of their religious sentiments by certain forces who wish to misuse religion for their political benefit. We hope that the people of this country continue on this path of peace and harmony and do not give any response to calls for violence and breaking the law over matters related to faith and creed. The response to calls by Shiv Sena leader Uddhav Thackeray for doing ‘dharna’ till the Ram temple is constructed has been extremely lackadaisical’’.

Maulana Umari continued by saying: ‘we also oppose attempts to acquire the Babri Masjid  land through enactment of an ordinance as the matter is pending before the judiciary and such a move will set a very unhealthy precedent which will be extremely damaging to the democratic polity of our nation. The supremacy of law must be respected by all stakeholders and peace with communal harmony must be preserved and protected at all costs’’. The Jamaat Chief added: ‘’The Muslim community also merits appreciation for exhibiting calmness in the face of provocation and not giving kneejerk reaction to the extremely fragile situation that prevailed at Ayodhya in the last few days.  ’’
