Jamaat-e-Islami Hind’s Relief Work in Assam

The Jamaat-e-Islami Hind is continuing its relief work among the victims of Assam disturbances. The relief is being provided in 167 relief camps with the help of 125 full-time volunteers.

According to a report released on 12 September, JIH had until then helped 27,000 families. Details are: utensils to 10,000 families, (2) Saris and lungies to 20.000 families, (3) Medical treatment of 16,000 persons, (4) Food relief for 20,000 persons, (5) Clothes to children 12,000, (6) Tarpaulins provided  500, (7) Legal aid to 13,000 persons (4000 FIRs lodged), (8) Arrangement of education for adults and  children in 70 camps.

Three medicals teams comprising four doctor, eight paramedics and eight  helpers are giving medical treatment in various camps. Help has been given to 150 college students to continue their studies.

A relief team of JIH visited two Bodo camps and some Muslims villages in the interior areas of Kokrajhar district and discussed with Bodo leaders the issue of rehabilitation and restoration of peace so that normalcy may be restored.

Meanwhile, JIH  Secretary General Nusrat Ali visited Assam on a five-day tour to review the relief work in the affected areas. JIH’s Central Assam Relief Fund has been receiving donations from all over the country.
