JIH Secretary meets Christian leader in Goa over national issues

Panaji (Goa), 28 June 2014: Mohammad Salim Engineer, National Secretary of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, during his two-day visit to Goa for organizational meetings, led a delegation to the head office of The Council for Social Justice And Peace, Goa’s esteemed Christian body in Panaji and met Fr. Savio Fernandes and other leaders of the Christian community. They had a cordial interaction on issues facing the country like protection of secularism and constitution of the country here earlier this week.

Fr. Fernandes welcomed Salim Engineer and other leaders. Jamaat leader suggested that all social, secular and religious organizations should work with unity and co-operation to safeguard the constitution and promote equality and justice.

Commenting on Central government decision to allow FDI in defense sector, he said that this will threaten the independence and security of India. He said concerned individuals and especially organizations should act as a pressure group and keep watch over the policies and laws of the new government.

Salim Engineer said that in the changed political scenario, the civil society to be more vigilant and any anti-people policy decision and tinkering with the constitution needs to be checked democratically.

The interaction was fruitful in cementing the idea of mutual co-operation between all peace loving people for the overall development of the society and to make it free from hatred and conflict.
