National level volunteers training programme in Kolkata

Kolkata: Society for Bright Future organized three days National level Volunteers training programme from 5th March to 7th March, 2001 at 71 G, Tiljala Road, Park Circus, Kolkata (W.B.). Some 50 selected volunteers of coastal region like West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu and Orissa states participated in this training programme.


The programme was started with recitation of holy quran by Riyazuddin Falahi. Thereafter Maulana Abdul Aziz, Deputy President, JIH West Bengal encouraged the volunteers while delivering his speech for providing relief to the victims at the
time of disasters. The Co-coordinator of SBF, Aquil Ahmad gave introduction of Vision 2016 programme. He also gave introduction of Society for Bright Future(SBF), its aims and objectives and elaborately explained the work done by SBF in the field of disaster
management.

Disaster Management Officer, govt. of West Bengal, Jyanta Chakraborty, explained about disaster, types of disasters and disaster management and how to connect the link with government for attaining co-operation for providing assistance to the
victims at the time of disasters. The Project Manager of UNDP, Shubhasis Debnath, explained about the geographical condition of coastal regions, flood, cyclone, tsunami in details. He also said about the steps which should be taken at the time of disaster to minimize losses of properties and lives. Dr. Masiur Rahman, Secretary of JIH, West Bengal emphasized and expressed his opinion about the aims and importance of volunteer core group and their roles and responsibilities.

Aquil Ahmed instructed the volunteers to draw the mind mapping of coastal regions. The volunteers presented the mind mapping of coast regions in a good way. Two films on disaster management were viewed by volunteers through LCD projector.

The volunteers also visited the field on the second day of programme. The volunteer groups visited Ayla cyclone affected areas like Dhamakhali, Kalitola, Parghoomti, Govindokati,Shamsher Nagar, near Sundarban etc. villages of Block Hingolganj ,District North 24 Pargana.The field visit was done under the supervision of Mr. Mahboob Ali and Coordinator of SBF. Before field visit The Coordinator divided the volunteers into four groups and instructed them to complete their task separately. He gave different work to each groups. The task for group One was to find out the datas like total population, muslim population, No. of schools, no. of hospitals etc. in village kalitola. Group two was allotted to draw the map of village Kalitola. Group III was allotted the work to find out the eminent and religious personalities in the villages and co-ordinate with them. Group IV was allotted the work to find out and collect the data related to the social and economical condition of the villages.

When these four groups completed their task then they presented their work in front of all volunteers. The third day programme was started by the Tazkeer of Abdul Aziz Vice president JIH West Bengal. Mr. Sunirmal Pal and Ranjan Rai Trainers of Civil Defence demonstrated how to manage disaster and presented the techniques practically about rescue operation.  Trainer of Indian red cross society, Mr. Shyam Lal Baran Mukherjee, gave details and practical information about steps of disaster management, first aid, rehabilitation, sanitation and hygiene. In this training programme, detail information was given about cyclone, tsunami, flood, and discussed in detail about managing these disasters. Maulana Abdul Wadood and Maulana Shahar Ali demonstrated how to give bath to funeral and how to bury the deceased.

The participants and volunteers gave positive feedbacks and requested to organize such programmes in the future. And the programme was put to an end by the concluding speech of Mr. Mahbood Ali, Zulfiqar Ali Gazi and Aquil Ahmad, co-ordinator, SBF. The vote of thanks was proposed by Mr. Khalikuzzaman, state convenor, Society For Bright Future, West Bengal.
