New Delhi, 14 April 2015: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has strongly condemned the demand of Shiv Sena’s Rajya Sabha Member Sanjay Raut, in an editorial of party’s Hindi daily Saamna, that Muslims of the country should be disenfranchised. Jamaat has termed the demand as anti-constitution and mischievous and said it will vitiate communal harmony in the country.

Nusrat Ali, Secretary General of Jamaat, said Sanjay Raut’s demand shows that fascist and communal organizations and people are dishonouring the Constitution by expressing anti-constitution views and violating it even after taking oath in parliament to follow it. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the government to reconsider the justification of Sanjay Raut’s membership of parliament and take legal action against Saamna daily in order to put a check on its venom spitting.

Nusrat Ali said that people like Sanjay Raut should know that like other citizens of the country, Muslims are also equal partner in the Indian union and have equal constitutional rights, which cannot be revoked by cries of people ignorant of the Constitution.

Secretary General of the Jamaat expressed satisfaction over the fact that several political parties and sensitive people of the country have strongly condemned the statement of Shiv Sena MP and demanded action against him and the daily.

Leader of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind urged Shiv Sena and its leaders to seriously assess gains and losses of their attitude of hatred and bias for years and work on the welfare programs for people of the country, particularly the poor, labourers and miserable farmers of Maharashtra. Rather than vitiating the communal atmosphere of the country, they should make it pleasant in order to win people’s heart.
