January 6, 2020

New Delhi: The President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), Syed Sadatullah Hussaini has condemned the brutal violence on JNU students and staff yesterday evening.

In a statement issued to the media, the JIH President said, “Jamaat-e-Islami Hind condemns the brutal violence on JNU students and staff by an unidentified gang of anti-social elements. It was a reign of terror unleashed by criminals who entered the premises yesterday evening and set about vandalizing the campus, entering hostel rooms and beating students with lathis, rods and heavy stones. The JNUSU President and a senior staff member received head injuries and several students had to be admitted at the AIIMS trauma center. The violence continued for several hours with live reporting by the television and social media. Despite this information, the Delhi Police and JNU administration did not intervene and permitted the mayhem to continue. Scenes of the Delhi Police allowing this gang, which perpetuated this dastardly violence to walk out of the campus without arresting and questioning them, were unimaginable. The Delhi Police also remained mute spectators when a violent mob heckled and beat Shri Yogendra Yadav. The same thugs were given a free hand outside the main gate to roughen and intimidate the media. The hooligans also blocked the ambulance from entering the JNU campus. Some anti-social elements also turned up at the AIIMS, aiming to prevent the injured from getting medical help.”

The JIH chief, Syed Sadatullah continued: “This entire incident and chain of events at JNU are a big alarm for the country. Only fascists can feel threatened by the voice of students. The goons who carried out should be immediately arrested and identified. The concerned respective police station and JNU administration should be made accountable for their dereliction of duty and stringent action should be taken against them. The government must immediately order a judicial inquiry to probe the violence and identify both the foot-soldiers and the people who gave them orders to do so.”
