Maulana Muhammad Jafar

Vice President, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind

Maulana Muhammad Jafar was born in Patna, Bihar on 31st December 1951. He obtained B.Sc. degree from the Patna Science College, a premier institution of the state. After becoming the youngest member of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) in Bihar in 1973, he joined the office as an assistant to the state president at Patna in June 1973.

Maulana Jafar was the president of Halqua-e-Tolaba-e-Islami Bihar, before its merger with the Students Islamic Organisation of India (SIO). He was elected as the first president of the SIO in 1983 and led the organization until 1985. 

Maulana Jafar served Jamaat-e-Islami Hind as the Bihar state president from 1986 to 1990, before being appointed the secretary general in the same year. He also served the JIH as the secretary general for four consecutive terms until 2007. In the same year he was appointed as the Vice President and held this responsibility until 2015. At present, he is serving Jamaat-e-Islami Hind as its Vice President since 2019. 

Maulana Jafar became a member of the Executive Committee of All India Muslim Personal Law Board and All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat in 1990 and he held the responsibility of Vice President of the Mushawarat. He also held the position of the Vice President of leading NGOs Human Welfare Trust, Human Welfare Foundation and Dawat Trust, carrying out humanitarian and welfare programmes across the country. He has also chaired the Society of Bright Future, a national level disaster management and relief society. 

Presently, Maulana Jafar is serving in various trusts and societies in different capacities such as he is a member of the governing council and general body of the Board of Islamic publications (BIP), which publishes English periodical ‘Radiance views-weekly. He is the Vice President of the Sahulat interest free micro finance society. He is the Chairman of the Managing committee of Alshifa multi speciality hospital in New Delhi. He is a founder trustee of Indian Centre for Islamic Finance (ICIF) and Islamic Academy Trust. He is also a trustee of the Ishaat Islam Trust. 

He visited the UK, US, Turkey, Iran, Nepal, Bangladesh, Pakistan and nearly all gulf countries and attended various international seminars and conferences. He knew Urdu, Hindi and English languages.
