New Delhi, 30 Dec 2013: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind organized a massive public conference here at India Islamic Cultural Centre on Sunday to raise voice in support of the Supreme Court verdict against homosexuality. Eminent leaders and followers of different religions attended the conference in large numbers and vowed in unison to protest against any government move to legalize homosexuality because no religion sanctions this dirty act. Ours is a religious country whose overwhelming majority believes in religion and upholds ancient traditions and civilization of the East. Every religion stresses marital relationship between men and women to build a family whereupon depends not only the existence of human race and lasting peace in the society but it also establishes a dignified and central position of woman in the society.
Addressing the conference, Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari, Ameer (National President) of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind expressed happiness over the fact that all religious leaders are united and sitting on a stage over this important issue. We all have to fight together against this menace. When politicians ignoring all ideological differences form government then why can’t we religious people walk together?
Maulana said unnecessary delay and hurdles in marriage also open door for sexual lawlessness. Therefore, it is the responsibility of the society to give special attention on this issue. He said marriage has two purposes according to Islam: Sexual satisfaction and evolution of human race. He said religion cannot allow any act which destroys human life, society and the country. It is an extremely dirty act which has caused innumerable diseases and deaths.
Gyani Shri Gurbachan, Jatthedar, Akal Takht, in his speech, said homosexuality is a very bad act. Sikh religion also describes it as a punishable offence. Even if law legalizes it, he said, religion will never allow it. Sexual relationship between man and man and between woman and woman is completely wrong and against the teachings of religion. Peace can be achieved only through the path of religion. I pray Almighty to give wisdom to those who are opposing the order of the Supreme Court. He announced that entire Sikh community will be with Jamaat-e-Islami Hind in the campaign against homosexuality.
Safdar H Khan, chairman, Delhi Minority Commission, said he is unable to understand why attempts are being made to legalize an act which is not done even by animals. Sexual diseases are increasing in countries where such dirty act is being done.
Representing the Christian community, Fr. MD Thomas said homosexuality is like a derailed train. It is a moral disease, mental illness and a war against nature. We should also try for its remedy. It is a psychological, social and moral disease. Parents should play the role of doctor to overcome it. With patience, this can be eradicated.
Mohsin Taqwi, Khateeb, Shia Jama Masjid said we all should fight against the attempts being made to take the society to destruction. As for Islam, homosexuality is haram (prohibited) – there are no two opinions about it. The reasoning being given to justify this act is very weak.
Representing Jainism, Acharya Lokesh Muni said there is a global conspiracy behind promoting homosexuality in India. In the name of so-called freedom and human rights, can people be allowed to act whatever they want? Today is just the beginning of the battle. We will not sit till we end this menace. I am assuring you on behalf of all Jain community that we all are with you (Jamaat-e-Islami Hind) on this issue.
Representing Sanatan Dharma at the public conference organized by Jamaat on the topic of ‘Menace of Homosexuality and Indian Society’, Jagat Guru Shankaracharya Shri Omkaranand asked where we are going in the 21st century. Are we going on the path of progress or destruction? It is the responsibility of religious leaders to come up to clean the society and make it beautiful. It should be our constant effort that our country progresses, peace gets established, religion remains and there is full freedom to practice it. No religion allows homosexuality and representatives of all religions are sitting here. I appeal to the people of the country that we should not do what is not allowed by religion. To save religion we are ready to protest even at Jantar Mantar.
Representing Arya Samaj, Maya Prakash Tyagi said good people are those who themselves do good work and ask others to do the same. It is unfortunate that we are talking about an issue which a gentleman would not like even to hear.
Many other dignitaries also took part in the program which had earlier started with the recitation of Quran by Qari Abdul Mannan. The program was anchored by Mohammad Salim Engineer, Secretary, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.
At the end of the program, the house passed a resolution.
Full Text of the Resolution:
The public convention, held on 29 Dec. 2013 at India Islamic Cultural Centre, New Delhi, feels that the decision of the Supreme Court on Section 377 of Indian Penal Code is not only in line with the eastern traditions of this country, moral values and religious teachings but it also removes apprehensions about invasion of western culture and disintegration of family system and fabric of social life – the inevitable fallouts of the Delhi High Court order of 2009 wherein it decriminalized homosexuality.
The convention, attended by different religions’ people, conveys this fact that our India is a religious country whose overwhelming majority believes in religion and upholds traditions of the east. All religions emphasize on construction of a family through marital relation between men and women, on which depend not only the existence of human race and lasting peace and tranquillity in the society but it also establishes the respected and central position of woman in the society.
The Constitution of the country has rightly described homosexuality as a punishable offence. It is because homosexuality not only prevents evolution and progress of human race but also destroys family system and social relations. Moreover, it is a great danger to public health. Medical research has also found it as a basic reason for the spread of AIDS.
The public convention welcomes the decision of the Supreme Court (delivered on 11 Dec 2013). With this historic decision, the apex court has kept the country from going on to the path of destruction. The convention is concerned that lovers of western culture, in the name of individual freedom, minority rights and other lame excuses, are putting pressure on political parties and governments for amendment in the law so that this shameless and criminal offence could be legalized.
The convention warns the government and political parties that we will never accept it if they do it ignoring religious teachings, eastern culture and opinion of the overwhelming majority of the people. Such filthy experiments have destroyed human society and violated the rights of women at a large scale in the west. We should learn from it.
The public convention appeals to the government and all political parties to accept this revolutionary and wise decision of the Supreme Court with open heart. The convention urges the supporters of western culture to take homosexuality as a crime and come forward to save the society of the country from this heinous act.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind deserves congratulations for raising voice against moral degeneration and homosexuality in particular unitedly taking into confidence representatives from all religions. This is the cause for which Prophet Lot had to leave his native place and its people and pray for Allah’s curse. The Dead Sea always reminds us of it. …A U Asif, Associate Editor, Chauthi Duniya, Noida (India)
