New Delhi; 23 Sep. 2023:  Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has condemned the appalling, offensive and filthy language used by BJP MP, Ramesh Bidhuri in Parliament against MP Kunwar Danish Ali of the BSP.

In a media statement, the JIH National Media Secretary KK Suhail said, “The appalling, offensive and filthy language used by MP Ramesh Bidhuri of the BJP against BSP MP, Kunwar Danish Ali in the Lok Sabha has angered every civilized Indian and lowered the standard and dignity of Parliament. Using racial slurs against a Member of Parliament by targeting his religious identity and using expletives his abusive language is clear evidence of hate for the entire Muslim community in India and intended to humiliate and berate him is not only shocking and distasteful but also criminal. Mr Bidhuri has committed a crime which has undermined the dignity of the house. While it comes as a relief to know that Bidhuri’s disparaging remarks have been expunged from the record books, the Speaker of the Lower House has warned him of strict action if he repeated such behaviour and the Defence Minister, Shri Rajnath Singh said, “I express regret if the opposition is hurt by the remarks made by the member.”However, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind feels that Bhiduri’s action on the floor of the Lower House is not just a misdemeanour that can be excused with a slight rebuke. It also sheds a poor light on our new Parliament building, having witnessed such a low and shameful behaviour of lawmakers elected by the people.”

Mr Suhail further said, “It is a grave violation of the dignity of a Parliamentarian amounting to a hate crime as the offensive words are deployed by criminals and anti-social elements to denigrate members of a particular religious community. It is also a natural outcome of the sustained narrow jingoistic ultra-nationalism practised by those in power and that thrives on the othering of citizens like Kukis, Muslims, Dalits and Adivasis. It exposes the blatant Islamophobia breeding within many members of the ruling dispensation. MPs are role models for citizens and if this crime goes unpunished, it will give a message that such actions are now being normalized. It will embolden others with similar depravity and hurt our long-cherished ideals and values of mutual respect and tolerance. JIH demands that Bhiduri be disqualified as MP and the BJP should also dismiss him from the party. Anything less will show Indian democracy in poor light.”
