Jamaat-e-Islami Hind says Manipur violence is worst crime against humanity

July 21, 2023

New Delhi, 20th July 2023: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) has said that the appalling and deplorable situation unfolding in Manipur is the lowest point for humanity. Saying that the timeline of violence stretching to three months highlights the utter failure of governance from both state and central government, the JIH remarked that proactive interventions from both governments could have stopped the escalation of violence to such a scale.

In a press statement, the JIH asserted that the horrifying sight of ladies being paraded while unclothed would haunt the nation’s conscience and strike a fatal blow to women’s protection and dignity. “This incident has once again revealed the communal rioters’ horrible anti-women attitude. As usual, the government is talking about “Killing the Messenger” by taking legal action against the social media platforms that made the crime widely known. This is to cover the failure of governance and to deflect attention from the violence itself,” read the statement.

Demanding to immediately restore internet services, the JIH commented that by preventing access to essential information, an internet shutdown destroyed democracy. “This should be seen as the rising trajectory of the countless thousands of acts of hate violence against minorities in India that have taken place since 2014. The government should move quickly to put an end to the rioting in Manipur by taking severe punishment against the offenders without giving them any regard whatsoever,” the statement added.
