The Central Advisory Council of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) demands the government to seriously focus on the basic issues concerning the people

New Delhi: In its meeting dated 23-25 June 2024, the Central Advisory Council, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind passed the following resolutions on the recently concluded 2024 Lok Sabha elections:

The Central Advisory Council of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind feels that the mandate that has been conveyed in the 2024 parliamentary elections by the people is in favor of democracy over aristocracy, constitutional principles over fundamentalism and sectarianism, liberalism and development over hatred and division, and in favor of inclusiveness over arrogance. The JIH Central Advisory Council feels that the public has not given power back to the ruling party but has voted for a coalition government of the NDA and a strong opposition. Those in charge of the government should understand this public mandate well and make appropriate reforms in their policies accordingly.

The JIH Central Advisory Council also realizes that while the BJP has suffered losses in the Northern and Western parts of the country due to its ideological policies, it has strengthened its hold in the South. The responsibility of the people of the Southern states has increased. They should not let the poison of sectarianism and hatred spread in their states, which has caused severe damage to the rest of the country. In Uttar Pradesh, a large state of India, where for the past several years, an atmosphere of tyranny and violence was being created against Muslims based on religious fanaticism, seeds of rift between two classes were being sown in the name of mosque and temple, and instead of rule of law, a general atmosphere of tyranny and oppression, fanaticism and arbitrary use of law was created – the people of the state have, through their votes, clearly expressed their disapproval and displeasure with that evil trend.

The Central Advisory Council of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind also urges the opposition parties to understand these results and their mandate. Secular parties would never have achieved this success if they had not risen above their party interests and personal pride and adopted the form of an alliance. It is also a fact that the public’s trust in the opposition developed when it adopted a clear and courageous stand against sectarianism, communalism, and the politics of hatred and division. They succeeded in the states where they came out with a clear stand against sectarianism and wherever they fell prey to hesitation, fear, pressure, greed, and selfishness, they had to face failure this time too.

The JIH Central Advisory Council regards with great respect the extraordinary efforts of Civil Society in the recent elections, which silently and with wisdom and intelligence made a continuous and united effort to establish democracy in the country and to maintain communal peace and harmony and to stop the tyrannical policies and awakened the public consciousness. Similarly, the citizens belonging to the Dalit and backward classes also voted considering the basic problems faced by the people and for the protection of the Constitution and this has yielded positive results.

The Central Advisory Council of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind feels that the Muslims as a whole displayed great wisdom, intelligence, trusting insight patience, and tolerance during the elections. There were systematic and continuous efforts to mislead, harass, and ignore their sentiments during the elections, but they kept themselves safe from this trap and used their votes very politely and without any fear. The JIH Central Advisory Council pays tribute to the Muslim community for this and appeals to them to continue this wise attitude in the present circumstances of the country. Similarly, the Council appreciates the organized and successful efforts of the Muslim religious and social organizations, scholars, youth, and other individuals and prays for their welfare.

The members of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, by its long-standing policies and traditions, have made continuous and joint efforts for the achievement of justice for all sections of the society, the establishment of peace and security, and the eradication of mischief and disorder. We heartily congratulate our supporters for their endeavors, pray for great rewards, and appeal to them to continue these efforts.

The Central Advisory Council of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind demands that both the Central Government and the Opposition should respect this mandate of the people, pay serious attention to the basic questions and issues of the people, and keep in mind the democratic values and traditions. The Council reminds them that it is the responsibility of the government to respect the basic rights of all the citizens of the country equally and not allow sectarian and class conflicts to arise in the country. When any party or alliance comes to power, it must uphold that responsibility as the trust of the people and is responsible for everyone, including those who voted for him and those who opposed him. Therefore, no discrimination or prejudice should be shown among the citizens by the government.

The JIH Central Advisory Council understands that at this time the responsibility of the secular political parties involved in the NDA has increased manifold. If they are supporting the government, then it is their responsibility based on their principles to ensure that the government strictly adheres to the democratic principles and practices, refrains from interference in the autonomy of democratic institutions, and the democratic rights and freedoms of the people and takes the problems and issues of every section of the society seriously. While rejecting the policies of cruel capitalism and selective sectarianism, such policies should be promoted which ensure the fair distribution of resources, and empowerment of the weaker and underprivileged sections of the society. By giving full respect to the rights of minorities, especially Muslims, their trust can be restored
