The International Interdisciplinary Conference on “Emergent, Holistic, and Transcendental Approaches to Social Sciences: Looking Beyond the Contemporary Narratives” was held at the University Polytechnic, Aligarh Muslim University on October 30, 31 October 2023. The conference, organized by the Centre for Study & Research in New Delhi in collaboration with the Faculty of Social Sciences at Aligarh Muslim University, aimed to explore innovative and unconventional approaches to social sciences that transcend traditional boundaries.

The Inaugural Session started with the address by Prof. Syed Farid Al-Attas on the topic “Social Sciences beyond Canon,” in which he encouraged critical thinking about the future of social sciences and their role in contemporary society.  The first Technical Session was on Epistemology in which Parvez Alam, Ganga P S, Syed Ahmed Muzakkir, and Syeda Nada Qadri presented papers on various topics.  On the second day, Dr. Muhammad al-Mukhtar al-Shinqiti gave the Plenary Lecture on “Evolving geopolitical dynamics in the Islamic world.”  This was followed by the second Technical Session in which Firasha Shaikh, Shahana Banerjee and Mohammad Saif presented papers.  Dr. Nazima Parveen, Fathima Nourin, Dr. Shabana Farheen presented papers in the third Technical Session on Sociology followed by a Plenary lecture by Prof. Hussain Jafri on insights into the challenges of historiographical biases in the context of Medieval Indian history. This was followed by Technical Session 4 on India’s Medieval History. Arshad Saba Shaikh, Yahya C, and Jahnvi Dwivedi presented their papers in this session. Fawaz Shaheen, Ipshita Mitra, Muhammed Musthafa and Juveria Asif presented their papers in Technical Session 5 on Sociology. The research scholars who presented their papers in the Technical Session 6 on Historiography were Sayyid Sabiq and Nida Fatima.

The Valedictory Session of the conference on October 31, 2023, featured several key components. Dr. Mohammad Rizwan presented the Conference Report, summarizing the highlights and key takeaways from the event. The Certificate Distribution segment was honoured by Prof. Mohammed Gulrez VC AMU and Shujauddin Fahad Inamdar, recognizing the participation and contributions of attendees and presenters. Finally, the session concluded with a Vote of Thanks delivered by Syed Ahmed Muzakkir, expressing gratitude to all participants, organizers, and contributors who made the conference a success.
