Important request to the Home Minister, CMs and political parties regarding Eid ul Adha from JIH Chief

24 Aug, New Delhi: The President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari has written to the Home Minister of India, various Chief Ministers of India and the heads of major political parties of India seeking their cooperation in ensuring a peaceful and incident-free Eid ul Adha. It may be noted that Jamaat-e-Islami Hind along with some prominent Ulema (scholars) and Muslim organizations have also issued a joint advisory to Muslims on how to conduct themselves during Eid. Following is the full text of the letter by Ameer e Jamaat addressed to the Home Minister and others:

Greetings

After a few days, Eid Adha (popularly called Baqr Eid) will be celebrated. This is the most important Muslim festival. Eid celebrations are spread over three days. This year the dates are likely to be September 1,2,3. On this occasion, we invite your kind attention to some important issues:

1)         The present atmosphere in many regions of the country is such that there may be hindrances in the transport of animals to market places where animals are sold for sacrifice. We request you to use your good offices to ensure that free movement of animals to markets is allowed. The police should not hinder this movement.

2)         Criminals (who have wrongly been given the honorable name of cow vigilant protector) for the past few months, have been attacking and killing people in the name of cow protection. Police have not taken any significant action against them; nobody has been punished yet. With such encouragement given to them, it is feared that these criminals will become oxen bolder on the occasion of Eid, they may become more active and try to stop the transport of animals. The lawlessness of these criminals should be checked. We request you to ensure effective action against such mischievous elements. They should not be allowed to take the law in their hands.

3)         It is also feared that at some places Muslims, on the occasion of Eid, may be stopped from performing the sacrifice. Such hindrances may be placed by the police or by lawless elements with the silent support provided by police. Sacrifice on the occasion of Eid is a religious duty and part of worship. Hence we request you to ensure that Muslims are not prevented from performing their important religious practice, on one pretext or another.

4)         Muslims on their own will maintain peace, law and order and abide by all related laws of the land. But it is feared that misguided elements may try to disturb peace and harmony in various areas. We request you to ensure that there is no disruption of law and order. No one should be allowed to take the law in their hands.

We thank you in anticipation. Our full cooperation will always be available to ensure peace, harmony & rule of law in the country.

Yours Sincerely,

(Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umri)
