Jamaat Media In-charge participates in NDTV debate

On the 1st of December NDTV 24×7 channel organized a debate in the program ‘’AGENDA’’ by Sunetra Chowdharyon the issue of Muslim Personal Law. The background of the debate was around the Bharatiya Muslim Mahila Andolan, which has petitioned the Prime Minister, urging reforms in the Muslim Personal Law. Their demands include making polygamy, unilateral oral triple talaq illegal and a compulsory 90-day arbitration period for divorces.

The letter urges that Muslim women’s opinion on equality and justice be heard. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Media Incharge – Arshad Shaikh participated in the live debate and said that: ‘’Muslim personal law is an intrinsic part of the religion of Islam and has been enshrined in the Quran. Hence any change in them is tantamount to interference in the religion and would violate constitutional guarantees of the freedom to practice ones religion. Changes in the personal law are not the solution to the problem. Community needs to start a process of education and reformation. ’’
