Two-day workshop of ‘Ulema-members’ of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind concludes

New Delhi, 14 June 2022: A two-day workshop of Ulama and Islamic scholars, who are the members of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) concluded on Sunday evening here at the JIH headquarters. The workshop, which was organized by the JIH Department of Islamic Society, attended by over a hundred selected Islamic scholars from across the country.

Delivering his key-note address, JIH President Syed Sadatullah Husaini underlined the virtues and importance of Islamic scholars in a society. Noting that the Qur’an and the Hadith have also mentioned many virtues of scholars, he asserted that they played an important role in leading the community in every age.

Stressing that their responsibilities have increased much more in recent time, Mr. Husaini held that without their active role, JIH or any other Islamic organisation cannot be fully successful. He said, “the leading role played by scholars has a profound effect on society. Especially in religious matters, the Muslim community depends upon the Ulema. So they can play a key role in spreading the message of the Islamic organisation among the Muslim masses and in shaping their minds. Achieving all this requires eminent scholars within our ranks who can lead and guide the Muslim community in every possible way.”

Delivering the welcome address, JIH secretary of Dr. Muhammad Razi-ul-Islam Nadvi noted that since the inception of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind a large number of scholars have been associated with the organisation. Mentioning the aims and objectives of the workshop, he said that it was a first-of-its-kind programme consisting of only ‘Ulema-Members of the organisation held and they would get to learn a lot in the workshop, Insha-Allah.

Speaking on the occasion, JIH secretary Maulana Waliullah Saeedi Falahi stated that the cognition and knowledge of God is the distinguishing feature of scholars. “With this they guide the community and hence it is necessary for them to be aware of current affairs and to guide the community according to the changing situation”, he added.

While speaking on the topic of ‘Ulema: Personality building for the required role’, JIH Vice President, Mr. S. Ameenul Hasan underlined that religious scholars should be experts in scientific as well as religious affairs. He advised them that they should be able to talk logically, based on complete information, avoiding provocation, blind imitation and intolerance.

Secretaries of the different departments of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind also spoke. Dr. Razi-ul-Islam Nadvi delivered a speech on the topic of Islamic jurisprudence and Ulama while Secretary of JIH Tasneefi Academy Dr. Muhiuddin Ghazi spoke ‘how to evolve the intellectual abilities of Ulema?’ Maulana Mohammad Iqbal Mullah, Secretary, JIH Department of Dawah, Mr.Mohammad Ahmed, Secretary, JIH Department of National Affairs, and Ms. Rahmatunnisa, Secretary, JIH Department of Women also spoke on the occasion. Mr. Asad Falahi was the programme coordinator.
