Jamaat expresses concern over grave rise in cancer disease

New Delhi, 21 May 2015: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has expressed serious concern over the grim health situation caused by the extraordinary rise in cancer disease in India and demanded the government to take effective steps to check cancer at national level and ensure necessary budget and implementation of comprehensive plans in order to improve overall health of the people.

Mohammad Salim Engineer, Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has termed as shocking and disturbing the opinion of medical experts that there is a fear of an increase of 500 per cent in cancer cases by 2025 in the country. The experts have also said that cancer in head, neck and heart is often attributed to smoking which people become addicted to in younger age. Therefore, they have advised that students should be taught in schools and colleges to avoid it.

Secretary General of Jamaat has advised the government to effectively ban items that cause cancer, implement schemes to create public awareness about their fatal impacts and propagate the message through media.

Mohammad Salim Engineer said that the Muslim society can play a big role in controlling this deadly disease; especially through Friday Sermons, awareness can be created about smoking – the main cause of cancer – along with social evils, and this can help in reducing the threat of fearful rise in cancer disease. He also appealed to the youth to use social media also for campaign against cancer so that the message about protection of human life could be spread.
