New Delhi, (January 31, 2017) – The President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind , Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari condemned the terror attack at a mosque in Québec City that reportedly killed five people and injured several. Maulana Umari said: ”we extend our deepest condolences to the families of those killed and pray for the speedy recovery of the injured at the Quebec City Islamic Cultural Center. We also condemn the burning of a mosque in Victoria, Texas suspected to be the work of hatemongers and Islamophobes’’.
Jamaat calls for quick apprehension of the culprits and appeals to law enforcement agencies in Canada and the United States to take all necessary precautions to ensure the safety of Muslim communities and institutions. We feel that the climate of hate and bigotry created by some leaders and ideologies against Muslims in North America is regrettable and will prove to be counterproductive and detrimental towards the interests of global peace and stability. Jamaat feels that the recent executive order signed by US President Donald Trump which bans the entry of citizens from seven Muslim majority countries is divisive and gives a fillip to those advocating religious discrimination. The ban is condemnable and should be immediately withdrawn as it is stoking the fire of hate against the Muslim community. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind hopes theforces of diversity and unity will prevail overthose of xenophobia and hatred and appreciates the democratic voices that are standing against this systematic campaign to polarize society.
