Journalists should avoid sensationalism and writing false stories – Jamaat-e-Islami Hind chief

25th June, New Delhi: The Ameer (chief) of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari addressed the media on a ‘’Iftar Get-together’’ program at Jamaat headquarters. Maulana Umari said that: ‘’we cannot change the whole society but at least we can make efforts to make our own family members and friends true representatives of Islam.

Muslims are advised in the Quran that ‘’O you who have believed, fear Allah and be with those who are true’’. So one must evaluate ones friend circle. One must try to be with those who are sincere and truthful and avoid the company of those who are selfish and unreliable.

Media and journalists should avoid sensationalism and writing false stories. Islam lays great importance on the substantiating of facts and is firmly against the spreading of unverified news.

Broadcasting uncorroborated reports may lead to serious repercussions. As Muslim journalists one should try to study the demands of our faith on our profession and how we can discharge our professional responsibilities in an ethical manner and being true to our faith.

Replying to a question on the media reports of some skirmishes between two groups of the Tableeghi Jamaat in Delhi, the JIH President said that Jamaat-e-Islami Hind sent a delegation to find a way to diffuse the situation and the delegation move was welcomed too.

However a solution to the problem is yet to be agreed upon and Jamaat-e-Islami Hind will continue to exert its efforts for unity and reconciliation. On the non-renewal of the term of RBI governor Raghuram Rajan the Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind,

Muhammad Salim Engineer said that we would have been happy if the RBI governor had continued as we see Rajan in favorable light and regret that the government could not retain such a talented and capable governor.
