April 18, 2020: Religious and community leaders including some prominent personalities have released a statement regarding the daily routine to be followed by Muslims in Ramadan during lockdown. The full text of the statement is as follows:

AN IMPORTANT APPEAL
by religious and community leaders and prominent personalities for
Daily routine to be followed by Muslims in Ramadan during lockdown

The lockdown has been extended in the country. The prohibition of people gathering in places of worship will continue. Alhamdolillah, the Indian Muslim community has rigorously implemented the lockdown and treating the conditions as an exceptional situation, restricted the daily 5-time as well as the Friday prayers in congregation. The holy month of Ramadan will commence in the last week of April 2020. This is a very important month for Muslims in which they make special arrangements and take special efforts to observe prayer and worship. An important appeal is being issued by the religious and community leaders and prominent personalities for the daily routine to be followed by Muslims in Ramadan during the lockdown. It is hoped that people will respond to the appeal and implement its instructions.

1. To protect oneself from Coronavirus, the following routine is being followed in mosques, that is Azaan to be called and just a couple of people shall pray in congregation in the mosque. Rest all the people to pray at home. The same routine to be practiced in Ramadan.

2. The obligation of Roza (fast) must be followed except for a valid excuse sanctioned by the Shariah.

3. People should do the Sehri (pre-dawn meal) and iftar (breakfast meal) at home. They should completely keep away from feasts and iftar-parties.

4. The Tarawih prayer should also be offered at home either individually or in congregation with only members of your immediate family. Please do not try to collect people from your neighboring homes.

5. Please try to avoid going to the bazaar during the month of Ramadan, especially avoid crowding the markets just before iftar.

6. Strictly avoid roaming here and there in the night during Ramadan.

7. Recite the Holy Quran as much as possible with understanding. Take the help of a translation or a Tafseer of the Holy Quran for that purpose.

8. Use this month for the tazkiya and tarbiyat (spiritual training) of your family members. Please spare some time to sit with them and study the Hadith and some Islamic literature.

9. The online lessons (tutorials) of the Holy Quran and Hadith regarding training and tarbiyat should be prepared and they should be utilized.

10. Azkaar (remembrance of God) and religious incantations should be practiced. Special emphasis to be laid on supplication and dua.

11. Relatives, neighbors and needy should be taken care of in the month of Ramadan. Charity should be maximized as it delays divine retribution.

We pray to Allah to put an end to this pandemic as soon as possible and our routine lives return to us.
