Ameer Jamaat Meets Vice-President of India

September 26, 2012

New Delhi, Sep 26 2012: A delegation of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind led by Ameer Jamaat Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari called on Honourable Vice President of India Hamid Ansari here today. During this formal meeting many issues confronting the country and the community came under discussion.

Ameer Jamaat congratulated Hamid Ansari on being elected Vice President of India for the second term and expressed his good wished for him. He drew the attention of Vice President of India on three issues, in particular. He said it is a matter of grave concern that a chain of communal riots has started in the country, particularly in Uttar Pradesh; and on the other hand the government has put the Bill on Prevention of Communal Violence under the carpet. With a sense of surprise, the Maulana asked whether any political party has been formed which does not want prevention of violence; (if not) then what is the meaning of postponing this Bill time and again. The Government is not giving a good message to minorities and justice-loving people by putting this Bill on the back burner.

The Jamaat chief also drew the attention of Vice President of India towards arresting of innocent Muslim youth in the name of terrorism and throwing them behind bars with serious charges under various Sections. Their innocence is proved by courts of law after 5 to 10 years; however during this period their families stand badly affected and the precious time of the life of these youth is spoiled in jails. This has been conveyed to the government umpteen times but the attitude of the Government is that of inaction.

The recent violence in Assam, the attitude of the State Government, the unconstitutional and undemocratic character of Bodo Territorial Council (BTC), and the Bodo Pact signed in 2003 also came under discussion during the Jamaat chief’s meeting with Vice President of India. The Maulana said those who have been rendered homeless want to go back to their homes but the State Government is not providing security for them.

The Vice President of India agreed to the concerns of the Ameer Jamaat and assured him of action on these issues. Jamaat’s Secretary Muhammad Ahmad and Member of its Central Advisory Council Dr. Qasim Rasool Ilyas also accompanied the Ameer Jamaat in the delegation.
