New Delhi 31 Jan. 2008, A children protest rally was organised against farmers’ suicide by Lokraj Sangathan in cooperation with Jamaat-e-Islami Hind and other organisations from Mandi House to Agricultural Ministry House, in New Delhi.
Around 300 school children participated in the rally along with widows and orphans of suicide farmers, opposing Government policies of SEZ and lands and demanding cancellation of all debts of farmers.
Expressing sympathy with the kin of effected farmers, Mr Mujtaba Farooq, Secretary Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, said that Government should take the issue very seriously and carryout some corrective steps swiftly and called upon the government to grant immediate compensation to the families of farmers who have committed suicide. He condemned the government for offering farming lands to establish Special Economic Zone.
At the end of rally, Janab Mujtaba Farooq along with leaders of Lok Raj Sangathan, widows and orphans of suicide peasants presented a memorandum to Agriculture Minister, Mr Sharad Pawar, demanding the government to provide secure livelihood to every family affected by peasant suicide, including immediate relief of 1 crore each.
