
International Seminar/Webinar on ‘Life and thoughts of Dr. Rafat’
New Delhi, 31st Jan., 2021: Scholars, academicians and leaders of Muslim organisations, today opined their views at a one-day international seminar on the “Life and thoughts of Dr. Mohammad Rafat”, who was an Islamic scholar, prolific writer and a senior ideologue of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind. JIH President Syed Sadatullah Husaini presided over the seminar, which was organised by the prominent research institute: ‘Idara Tahqeeq o Tasneef Islami, ITTI, Aligarh, UP. Dr. Rafat, 65, passed away on January 8.
Delivering presidential speech at the seminar, the JIH President has called Dr. Rafat a multi-faceted personality whose life is an exemplary for Muslims. Mr. Husaini said, “the papers presented here shed light on the various aspects of his scholarly and literary life. The purpose behind remembering his merits and virtues, is to present an ideal to the new generation and motivate people to fill the gap that arises after the sad demise of Dr. Rafat. The JIH President continued, “we used to approach him in the intellectual and ideological matters. His method of expression was very impressive. He always used to present logical arguments during discussion on the issues in the JIH advisory council, upholding the high level of decorum and etiquette of disagreement while differing with others as well as respecting differences of opinions and dissents. He did never make disagreement an emotional issue, nor did he let any kind of rift in relations with those who differed with him. He always made sincere efforts to implement whatever decision was taken by the consensus in the council. He had adopted the path of commitment and dedication and benefited greatly to the Islamic movement with his abilities.
Delivering a keynote address on the occasion, chairman of the JIH Shariah Council and former JIH President Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari, described his son-in-law, Dr Rafat as a very intelligent and beloved person among his friends circle and acquaintances. Maulana Umari said, “even during his education, he was very popular due to his characteristics. He did a deep study of modernism and the Western ideas and critically reviewed them. He was an excellent advocate of Islamic thoughts and fully adopted the thoughts of the great Islamic scholar Maulana Syed Abul Ala Maududi. He was always ready for the Islamic cause and spent most of his time working for it after his retirement from Jamia Millia Islamia as a professor.
The seminar was also addressed by JIH Vice President S. Aminul-Hassan, JIH Secretary Maulana Razi-ul-Islam Nadvi, Prof. Ahmadullah Siddiqi, Dr.Khalid Mubashir Zafar, Prof. Kanwar Muhammad Yaseen, Dr. Obaidullah Fahad Falahi, Dr. Saleem Khan and Dr. Hassan Raza. Besides, various scholars presented their papers at the seminar cum webinar on different aspects of Dr. Rifat’s life.
