New Delhi, 08 Aug 2014: It is important to understand that Israel is fighting helpless people and the world perceives the Israel-Palestine conflict as a fight between two equals, we have to change that, said noted journalist Neelabh Mishra at the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind headquarters on Saturday.
Mishra who is the Editor of Outlook Magazine (Hindi Edition) was at the Jamaat headquarters to give a lecture on the current scenario of the Israel-Palestine conflict as part of Jamaat’s weekly lecture series.
Mr. Mishra in his lecture spoke at length on the Israeli human rights violations and the role the United States of America plays in the entire conflict.
Mr. Mishra chose to primarily focus on the current scenario but gave a brief historic introduction to the conflict. “Without going into the historic issue of how Israel was made and its legitimacy, I will speak of the current scenario,” he said.
Up until April, Hamas and Fatah were divided but have come together on a truce. But as they did, Israel and the US considered them a bigger threat terming it as a ‘unity of terror’.
Speaking on how the current Israeli offensive started, Mr. Mishra said that the three Israelis that were killed at the beginning of the war, even that has been established that members of Hamas and Fatah were not the ones involved in their killing. A much smaller group that Hamas had disowned were the culprits whose responsibility Hamas could not take. But even the murder of the three Israelis was mainly in retaliation to Israel’s encroachment on Palestinian land.
Mr. Mishra blamed the hold of the Jewish lobby in the US for dismantling the peace initiative that was taking place by international pressure.
He expressed shock at how the 4th greatest army in the world, in terms of arms and military training, was fighting against a totally helpless people. Saying that this was one of the only few wars where hospitals and schools were being targeted by the aggressors. He also compared the casualty rate between the two countries for the first three days where 260 Palestinians were killed, whereas only one Israeli was killed during the attack.
The reason why he urged the audience to look at it from this perspective was because of how the media bias was making it seem like a battle between equals. “We have to look at this from this perspective because the world’s perception of this war is as if two equal armies were at war,” he said.
Mr. Mishra said that the one of the main reasons why Britain and the US chose to establish Israel in the Middle East was mainly because of its imperialistic purposes and strategic placement.
Quoting Jawaharlal Nehru, Mr. Mishra said that the former Indian prime minister had said that even if the Israeli settlers had come to Palestine, there was no need for the division of the state for Jews and Palestinians. But Mishra remarked that the British had a habit of dividing wherever they ruled such as in India and the other Arab states.
With the recent Israeli offensive on Gaza which has left over 1,800 Palestinians dead, including women and children, and more than 10,000 injured.
Maulana Jalaluddin Umri, Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami, General Secretary Nusrat Ali, General Secretary; Mohammad Jaffar, Vice-President and Secretaries Mohammad Salim Engineer and Mohammad Ahmad were also present at the lecture.
US commenced its air strike on ISIS blaming them of genocide of Iraqis. Lsst one month Israel has been carrying out the genocide in Gaza, the agent of Shaytan, Obama, is terming it ‘self defence’ and granting Israel millions of dollars whereas the Palestinians dont have food/water/electricity tovyake care of newly borns and injured.
Good job.
Such talks should be organized at all levels in the country.
It’s a great effort and a way expressing our dissatisfaction, we are happy that our voices are there for humanity, but we need to be ready physically too, I am ready to save my brothers and sisters to fight against the oppressors, I will fight until I kill them or be killed, and I ask the creator to help the ummah in creating an army to show them who Muslims are…
