Forum for Democracy & Communal Amity meets in Mumbai

Forum-for-Democracy-&-Communal-Amity-meets-in-MumbaiMumbai, 28 Dec 2013: Leaders of Forum for Democracy & Communal Amity (FDCA) met here last week and discussed steps to strengthen the forum to combat growing influence of fascist and communal forces in the country.

The meeting was held at Sahil Hotel in Mumbai Central on 21 Dec, which was participated by eminent personalities from Mumbai and other parts of Maharashtra.

FDCA, set up in 1993, has people from different religions and NGOs. Its purpose is to strengthen secular values of the country and promote communal harmony.

Opening remarks at the Mumbai meeting were given by Hafeez Farooqi, General Secretary, FDCA, Maharashtra, wherein he highlighted the importance to revive the forum.

In his speech, Taufeeq Aslam, president, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind Maharashtra invited secular forces to get united in the changing atmosphere of the country.

In his presidential speech, Mohammad Salim Engineer, National General Secretary, FDCA, pointed out the importance and relevance of FDCA and asked members to speed up activities in view of the upcoming elections wherein dirty game of politics will be played.

Rahila Bodhi, eminent personality from Buddhist community highlighted the dangers of communalism before the country and urged leaders of different religions to get united.

Dr. Suresh Khernar, member of the executive council of FDCA stressed preparation to combat the growing fascist forces in the country and highlighted threats to integrity of the country.

Adv. Sonia Uma spoke on the communal violence bill and stressed efforts to table it in the parliament.

Other eminent persons who took part in the discussion included Dr. Shoaib, Dr Azeemuddin, Satyendar Pal Singh and Dr Rahmatullah.
