Government to ensure justice to Forbesganj victims

June 5, 2011

Patna: In a good sign of emerging unity among the Muslim community over Forbesganj police firing, a big delegation of eminent Muslim organizations visited the Bhajanpur village in Araria district on Friday to console the June 3 police firing victims and demand the government to ensure justice to them.
The delegation comprising representatives from Jamaat-e-Islami, Jamiat Ulama, Bihar Rabeta Committee, Momin Conference Bihar, Welfare Party of India, Students Islamic Organisation of India, Kosi Ulema Council and Youth Friends Club besides some eminent journalists and social activists visited the families who lost their dear ones in the unprovoked firing and consoled them.
Talking to media persons after the visit, the delegation summarily rejected the judicial probe ordered by the Bihar Government, and demanded a CBI probe. They also demanded withdrawal of cases against the villagers, standard compensation to the victims and government job to one member of each family who lost their dear one.
“The June 3 firing was unprovoked. It was not required. We have demanded a CBI probe into the firing, and the probe must also cover the alleged connection of Bihar Deputy CM Sushil Kumar Modi with the upcoming Auro Sundaram International Company,” said noted journalist and social activist Nayyar Fatmi, who is the Convenor of the newly formed ad-hoc committee of Muslim organizations for the Forbesganj police firing. Fatmi led the delegation from Patna.
“We have also decided to hold a big demonstration in Patna on 23rd of July,” informed Fatmi, who was part of the delegation that included Dr SQR Ilyas, General Secretary, Welfare Party of India, Nayyaruzzaman, president, Jamaat-e-Islami Bihar, Zafar Imam and Mohd Arif Ansari, president and general secretary respectively of Momin Conference Bihar, and Maulana Mohd Nazim, Bihar president of Jamiat Ulama-I-Hind (Mahmood Madani group).
However, complete unity among the community over the firing issue that has dented the image of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is yet to come.
