Guest Worker Conference Held in Malappuram

New Delhi: A special conference in honour of the guest worker families was held at Talent School in Odakannagara in Malappuram District. Organised jointly by Jamaat-e-Islami Hind’s Kerala Halqa in collaboration with the region, it saw the participation of around 350 members from 100 guest worker families.

The Secretary, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Kerala Halqa, Hakim Nadvi was the chief guest and inaugurated the seminar with a speech kept specifically centric to the ideology and core teachings of Islam. He emphasized this as the relevance for such teachings that can help individuals achieve peace and progress towards one and all aspects of living, thus establishing them as a necessity for the well being of every family.

Dr. Nahas Mala, President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Malappuram District, highlighted the need to impart social and moral values to the families of guest workers. He emphasized the significance of the development derived from Islamic education for the families of expatriates.

Muhammad Umar Faruq represented the Manav Migrant Welfare Foundation and spoke on how the foundation was working to bring better quality of life to the lives of migrant workers. He highlighted the main activities undertaken by the foundation, including education schemes, health programs, legal guidelines, and free medical care, accident insurance, and education for the children of the migrant workers.

A conference with a spiritual touch started the day with Maulana Shafi Shahbandari leading a Qur’an lesson. Then, the impromptu special workshops for children organized by Abdur Rahman and Fahmida Khatun covered life skills development through exciting physical exercises such that lively thinking could be an integral part of the event too.

The program was inaugurated by Habib Jahan, vice president of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Malappuram District. Sadiq Ali, coordinator of the Manav Migrant Welfare Foundation in Ernakulam District, presented various efforts of the foundation to help migrant families.

Cultural shows added further excitement to the event, and the conference was concluded with closing remarks by Muhammad Ali Kudenji, Principal of Talent Public School.

Organizers were confident that the conference would not only help in raising the living standard of guest worker families but also enhance social and religious values thereof.

This is why the Kerala government respectfully refers to workers and their families from other states as ‘guests.’ That is why the event has been named the ‘Guest Worker Family Conference.’
