New Delhi: The President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari has condoled the deaths in the Tsunami in Indonesia on Saturday.
In a press statement, the JIH President, Maulana Umari said that: ‘‘we are deeply saddened by the news of a Tsunami in Indonesia that resulted in large scale death and destruction in the coastal towns of Sunda Strait between the islands of Java and Sumatra. Media reports suggest that nearly 222 people have been killed and 843 injured in the tragedy. The Tsunami was apparently generated due to underwater landslides caused by the eruption of Anak Krakatau volcano. The authorities have warned that more Tsunamis were possible as long as the volcano was active’’.
Maulana Umari said: ‘’Jamaat stands with the people of Indonesia in this hour of distress and grief. We pray to Allah to give patience to the bereaved and courage to the survivors in order to help them cope with this calamity. We hope the international community will rise to the occasion and offer its aid and help to Indonesia for relief and rehabilitation of those affected by this tragedy’’.
