Jamaat expresses serious concern on rise in violent incidents inside jails

New Delhi, March 15: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, India’s one of the largest socio-religious organisations, has expressed serious concern on the rise in violent incidents and unnatural deaths inside prisons in the country.

A Supreme Court bench of Justices Madan Bhimrao Lokur and NV Ramana on Monday expressed serious concern on the issue. The civil society, Human Rights Activists and our organization have long been raising the issue. Now the apex court of the country has also expressed its concern over it, said Mohammad Salim Engineer, Secretary General, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.

He said that on many occasions, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has urged the government to set up fast-track courts for speedy disposal of pending cases in order to minimize delay in justice.

While expressing serious concern on the conditions inside jails, Jamaat’s Secretary General said that due to lack of basic amenities there, inmates are suffering with mental troubles.

He further said that inhuman behaviour with prisoners and violent incidents inside jails are damaging the image of the country.
