“The Sachar Committee report which was commissioned by the Congress itself is testimony to the fact that the party has driven the Muslimsinto backwardness. For the longest time there was no other party in power besides the Congress. Many Muslims vote for them because there is no alternative,” Omri said.

Describing the Welfare Party of India (WPI) as an entity independent of the JIH despite having working members of the JIH, Omri said that the JIH would support the party in the 2014 parliamentary elections as its objective was upliftment of backward sections of society includingthe SCs and STs.

“Having said that, the JIH members will not contest the elections. We are going to support those who are already in the political field,” he said.

The Maulana also informed that the JIH has made a database of 700-800 names of such people who are languishing in jails and the organization wants them out. “We are still working on it and there may be more than 1,500 people languishing in various prisons. We are giving monetary aid to families of inmates who are finding it difficult to make ends meet,” he said, adding that the JIH would support separate Telangana at the state level.

The statement by the President of JIH is absolutely right and the Muslims in India have a lot of thinking to be done along with drafting a road map to come up with remedial action from within themselves.
