JIH Secretary General visits family of Rajasthan ex-MLA who died during hunger strike demanding liquor ban

Jaipur, 17 Nov 2015: Mohammad Salim Engineer, Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind on Tuesday visited the family of former MLA of Rajasthan Gurusharan Chhabra who died earlier this month during hunger strike demanding ban on liquor in the state.

 

The Jamaat leader met Gaurav and Pooja, Chhabra’s son and daughter-in-law, offered his condolences to them on his demise and promised to continue support to their movement.

 

“I went to meet the family of ex-MLA Gurusharan Chhabra and met his son and daughter-in-law. I assured them that we all are with them in their cause. It is actually our cause,” said Salim Engineer.

 

The 69-year-old former Janata Party legislator Chhabra, who was on a hunger strike for 32 days since October 2, died on November 3 after his condition deteriorated.

 

Jamaat leader informed that Jamaat has been part of the anti-liquor campaign of Chhabra since the beginning.

 

Gaurav and Pooja want to take the movement ahead. They said if the government did not accept the demand they will also begin hunger strike. I assured them that Jamaat is with them and would work to turn it into a big movement, said Jamaat leader.

    I would suggest Gourav and Pooja not to take Hunger Strike as the way of movement. Rather adopt a state wide campaign with JIH against Liquor Principle of the State and Nation as well. Furthermore, it is necessary to change the bad habits of the common people who have already habituated of drinking wine.

    A single person, not much capable to understand the things well as much the Government. Especially in case of Liquor, gambling, Cigarette Smoking & others Health killing Habits.

    That’s why every society has own laws and punishment in order to maintain the Health of the People. A right punishment should be executed with the supports of required provisions, encourage the Healthy environment of the nation. Condemn & band the HEALTH KILLING HABITS.

    WHO and our government should understand, This is not the business to earn the money from the Liquor, Gambling, Cigarette while putting our life in danger.
