Mumbai, 2nd Dec. 2013: The Ideal Relief wing and the youth wing of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Kausa Mumbra organized a Disaster Management Program at Zam Zam Hall, Kausa in Mumbra of thane District on Saturday (30th Nov. 2013).
Mr. Santosh Kadam (Head-Officer Regional Disaster Management Cell, Thane Municipal Corporation) praised the initiative taken by the NGO Ideal Relief Wing and the youth wing of Jamaat-e-Islami, Mumbra and the special efforts from Mr. Abdus Salam Malik. He stated that we have to understand the real meaning of Disaster Management. Basically, he said, there are 32 kinds of disasters both man-made and natural ones. However, in Mumbra we find five kinds of disasters which incur Human, Social and Financial losses through Building crash, Excess rain water, Road accidents and Fires etc. The best way to tackle disasters is first through Prevention which is the most important, secondly Preparedness and then finally comes the Rehabilitation of the affected victims which is a long and tedious process.
He further said that the Govt. has kept a 24-hour helplines of communication for the general public. Telephone no 108 is available so that any Disaster can be reported immediately.
Mr. Jadhav (Officer, Regional Disaster Management Cell, Thane Municipal Corporation) emphasised that the NGOs and the team working under Disaster Management cell should provide their services voluntarily as this work cannot be forced upon people. “I am therefore happy that Ideal Relief Wing has taken this very important issue in Mumbra,” he said. He went on to say that he has worked in various parts of the country in various agencies and capacities by citing examples of controlling Disasters. Notable examples were the
Earthquake of Usmanabad, Beed, Killari in Latur Dist, the Earthquake of Jammu and Kashmir, the acid spillover at Gharda Chemicals near Chiplun, Chlorine gas leak at Sewri, and the Kumbakonam Cylinder blast where 94 children were killed. These accidents could have been avoided or minimised with proper safety measures and awareness. Life of an individual is very important and precious and saving a life gives tremendous satisfaction and peace of mind which no amount of money can buy. Killing or taking life of affected victim should not be in the dictionary but saving life must be top priority irrespective of cast, creed and religion.
Mr. Parab, a Senior officer from Fire Department of Thane Municipal Corporation said that we are in a Disaster prone zone as on one side we have mountains and on the other side we have creek. Further he said that we have a Bypass road and daily hundreds of heavy vehicles pass thru it and we do not know what Hazardous chemicals they carry. It is here that Ideal Relief wing can play a very important role by creating awareness amongst the masses of Mumbra and also by extending help in support services.
Mr. Zafar Ansari, Secretary, Training, Jaamat-e-Islami Hind, Maharashtra spoke on the significance of the Social Service to Mankind in Islam and its rewards in this world and Hereafter provided it is done sincerely and only for the sake of Allah. He quoted the example from the life of Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) as to how an old woman in distress was helped. He also said that the workers of Jaamat are in the forefront of relief work throughout the country. The workers of Jamat were instrumental in laying a road in the mountainous terrain of Kerala when the Govt Machinery could not meet the requirements of local people. Similarly in Gujarat riots the Jamaat workers were in the forefront in providing relief and rehabilitation to the needy irrespective of the caste, creed or religion.
Finally the local unit President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Mumbra, Prof Mohammed Jawed addressed the gathering quoting the Holy Quran and the Traditions of Prophet Mohammed (pbuh) the significance of Social Service in Islam. He said with strong conviction that those who are engaged in helping the people in dire distress will be rewarded in this world and the Hereafter. The work of Social Service is also a form of worship as service to humanity is service to God.
He encouraged the youngsters to actively participate in the programs of Ideal Relief wing, the next of which will be held on 29th December 2013.
