New Delhi, 05 May: Newly-appointed Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Mohammad Salim Engineer assumed office on 2nd May at the headquarters of the Jamaat here in New Delhi. He took charge from Nusrat Ali who served on the post for the last two terms (eight years).
IIT-Kanpur alumnus Dr Mohammad Salim, who has done Ph.D. in 4G mobile communication technology and is presently Associate Professor at MNIT, Jaipur, got emotional and tears rolled down from his face when he sat in the chair of Secretary General in the presence of Ameer-e Jamaat Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari, outgoing General Secretary Nusrat Ali and other national secretaries of the Jamaat Maulana Mohammad Rafeeq Qasmi, Mohammad Ahmed, Ejaz Ahmed Aslam, Iqbal Mulla and Ashfaque Ahmed. Ameer-e Jamaat Maulana Umari encouraged him and prayed for success in the discharge of his duties.
Meanwhile, Nusrat Ali, who has been appointed Naib Ameer (vice president) by Ameer-e Jamaat, has also assumed office.
The elections for national leadership of the Jamaat were held in April this year. Maulana Umari was elected Ameer for third consecutive term. He has appointed three Naib Ameer (vice presidents) namely Nusrat Ali, T. Arif Ali and Syed Saadatullah Hussaini and for the post of Secretary General, he selected Mohammad Salim Engineer who had been serving as National Public Relations Secretary of the Jamaat for the last four years.
