JIH Markazi Taleemi Board writes to Education Minister suggesting ways to address learning gap among school children

New Delhi, 2nd August, 2022: Director of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind’s Markazi Taleemi Board (MTB), Syed Tanveer has written to the Union Education Minister, Mr.Dharmendra Pradhan, suggesting ways to address the learning gap among school children. The suggestions are an outcome of extensive consultation and deliberation with prominent educationists, teachers, practitioners, and subject matter experts.

One important suggestion is the idea of the Academic Intensive Care Unit (AICU). This model has been tried and tested by NGOs like Shaheen Educational Society, Bidar, Karnataka, and witnessed positive outcomes. In the last fifteen years, they have got a 100% success rate. This process starts with identifying the learning gap through baseline assessment which can be done both by either written or oral assessment. This baseline assessment will help to know the gap between the biological age and academic age of a child. So, AICU is a tool to bring a child of a particular biological age at par with her/his academic age.

Addressing the Education Minister, MTB offers to provide a demonstration of AICU before the Ministry. The same concept was presented before Dr. Kasturi Rangan, (Chairperson, National Steering Committee for upcoming National Curriculum Framework) on 28th June 2022 at the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore by Shaheen Educational Society, Bidar (Karnataka).

MTB hopes that the suggested program would be implemented at the national level to reduce the learning gap among school children.
