Muslim delegation visits Akal Takht Jathedar

New Delhi: A delegation of important Muslim organizations and Muslim leaders met the Akal Takht Jathedar, Giani Harpreet Singh.

 

A statement issued to the media said, “A delegation of Muslim leaders and organizations met the Akal Takht Jathedar, Giani Harpreet Singh at his office in Amritsar. The delegation thanked the Sikh community for their support and services. They discussed the situation in the country including that of the minorities and their concerns related to their religious identity. Concern was also voiced over the dangers of communalism and the need to strengthen unity and communal amity. There was broad agreement over jointly fighting against the dangers to the Constitution and the rights of the minorities.”

 

The Akal Takht Jathedar, said – “We will continue to fight injustice against any community especially the minorities and weaker sections. It has been our tradition to do so.” The delegation emphasized that the religious leaders can play an important role in resolving the present crisis confronting the nation. The leaders should join hands and provide collective leadership. The delegation expressed satisfaction over this meeting and hoped that it will lead to an overall improvement. The delegation stated that Muslim organizations are meeting Muslim religious leaders and shall meet religious leaders of other communities as well.

 

The Muslim delegation included Dr Zafarul Islam Khan (Chairman-Delhi Minority Commission), Mujtaba Farook (Executive Secretary – All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat), Dr Muhammad Salim Engineer (Vice President, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind), Maulana Asgar Ali Imam Mehdi (Jamiat Ahle Hadees), Peer Syed Tanweer Hashmi (Sajjada Khaqah Hashmia, Karnataka), Maulana Chaudhary Hussain (Jamiat Ulema Hind) and Abdul Shakoor (JIH-Punjab).
