November 11, 2019

New Delhi: The Vice President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Muhammad Salim Engineer attended a meeting held at the residence of National Security Advisor Ajith Doval’s and called for maintaining peace and unity after the Babri Masjid judgment by the Supreme Court of India.

On this occasion, Muhammad Salim Engineer said: “We received an official invitation for this program and decided to attend the meeting as we have been always open to all kinds of dialogues with government or other religious organizations especially on matters related to peace harmony and unity. We have offered our support to maintain peace and harmony to pre-empt any untoward situation in the days after the verdict.”

“At the same time, we strongly registered our grief and dissatisfaction at the judgment before the delegates and hosts.

Our thoughts which were incorporated in the resolutions passed at the end of the meeting”, he further said.

According to the JIH Vice President, just after Babri Masjid verdict was pronounced on Saturday, the leadership of Jamaat has advocated its strong opposition to and dissatisfaction with the verdict. Whether at the press conference of the All India Muslim Personal Law Board or our official statement or subsequent public and private gatherings, JIH has strongly put forth its position that while it respects the judgment, Jamaat strongly believes that the apex court disregarded facts and ruled in favor of faith and belief of one community.

“The participation of Jamaat-e-Islami at the meeting has led to certain questions being raised regarding our position in the matter. I would like to reiterate that JIH has only one stand on the matter and it is unequivocally conveyed at all forums, including that of the National Security Adviser. While the timing of the meeting and the decision to attend it may be criticized, it must be clear that the representatives of JIH attended the meeting only to convey our disagreement and dissatisfaction with the judgment and the course of events” he explained.
