Protection for Returning Home Must be Provided to Assam’s Riot Victims

Kerala, September 29, 2012: Jb T. Arif Ali, president JIH Kerala (N) has demanded the central government that the victims of Assam who had fled from their homes during the riot must be given full protection and help for returning their homes.  In a press release after visiting the riot affected areas of Assam he has also demanded that weapons should be arrested from the Bodo zealots and all the bigotry sections must be removed from the Bodo Territory Council Act. He further said that the government must focus on the point that it should work to increase peace and harmony among communities and to abolish the unrest and intolerance in the area. The government should make the process of rehabilitation faster and the educational institute must be brought back to their actual objectives.

Jb Ali also visited the relief camps and witnessed that although government is distributing food yet the situation is very tense and complicated. Most of the camps are flooded due to heavy rain. Besides, there is no electricity and medical facilities in camps. There are living 15 to 18 families in every single classroom of the school with less and poor facilities of toilet and sanitation.

Jamaat-e-Islami has also opened its relief offices in three areas i.e. Vilasipada, Nakidorah, and Behmani. Out of a total 298 camps, 74 camps are being looked after by the members of Jamaat under the supervision of Jb Shafi Madani, central secretary of the social welfare department JIH. The Jamaat activists are helping in distributing of sheets for camps, remaking of lost documents, making arrangements for continuing the education of students, receiving help and compensation for the rehabilitation of victims. The JIH has also provided help to around 70 families in building homes.

The top level delegation of JIH Kerala (N) under the leadership of its president reached Assam on September 20, 2012. They visited the representatives of Jamiat Ulema and Assam UDF and discussed about the riot, victims, and relief work. The delegation had included the president JIH Kerala (N) T. Arif Ali, vice president Sheikh Muhammad Karikunu, general secretary P. Mujiburrehman, secretary N. Abdur Rehman, along with secretary of the social welfare Jb P. C. Bashir.
