New Delhi, 09 Dec 2013: Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari, Ameer (National President) of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, India’s largest Muslim organization, has issued the following statement on the assembly election results. Maulana Umari has linked the failure of Congress and other secular parties to their non-performance and taking minorities for granted. He has termed the emergence of Aam Aadmi Party as a good sign for the country and a lesson for political parties. Jamaat chief has expressed hope that Bharatiya Janata Party – which is set to form governments in at least three states – would respect the Constitution in letter and spirit and protect the rights of minorities enshrined in the Constitution.

Text of the Statement:

Congress and other secular parties have miserably failed in the recent assembly elections for different reasons: they did not fulfil the promises they made in their manifestos; they kept themselves aloof from the masses; and they took minorities for granted. The results announced on Sunday may leave impacts on the General Elections due in 2014. We, therefore, want the secular parties to introspect themselves and reconsider their approach. They should address their failures, come out to solve the issues of the masses and change their attitude towards minorities.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and allies have got huge unexpected success in these elections. But it does not mean that masses have accepted their policies and program. Rather it was because the people were angry with the Congress and looking for an alternative.

The emergence and success of Aam Aadmi Party has sent a good message to the country. It shows that if a new party comes close to common people, shows genuine sympathy with them and promises to resolve their basic major issues like corruption and crime, then people can support such a party wholeheartedly. Political parties should take a lesson from it.

BJP has got clear majority in three states and will form government there. We hope BJP, rather than pursuing its agenda, would respect the Constitution of the country in letter and spirit and protect the rights of minorities and weaker sections enshrined in the Constitution. This will be in the interest of the country and the party itself.

Good. A timely and true statement from the Ameer of JIH.
I hope Jamaat will play a constructive role in the forthcoming LS elections to bring secular front at the helm of affairs to see equity and justice in India.

    Time is too short.
    Task is too great.
    Resources are limited.
Let jamaat take note of this and plunge into the field.

    Regards
