To live with their identity in the country is Muslims’ constitutional right

New Delhi, 09 June 2014: “With full force, we should tell the powers that be that Muslims in the country have never taken to an illegal path. Their struggles have always been constitutional. If one or two persons ever took to wrong path, the entire Muslim community never supported it, rather always disowned it,” said Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Omari, Amir (National President) of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind while addressing the inaugural session of the two-day conference of state presidents of Jamaat here at the headquarters on Monday. The meeting has been called to discuss results of the Lok Sabha election 2014 and the aftermath of the formation of new government at the centre.

Maulana Omari said that Muslims should categorically tell the countrymen that they want to live in the country with their own identity and individuality. It is their constitutional right which none can deprive them of. They want full freedom to follow their Personal Laws. Maulana Omari said that since Independence, Muslims have had certain demands and whoever came to power, the community has put those demands before them. Now after the political change in the country, the community must not send a signal now that they have given up all their demands. Instead, as citizen of the country, they will put those demands before the present government also.

Maualna Omari said there are lots of misunderstandings about Islam and Muslims. We should remove those misunderstandings and present a true picture of Islam. Concluding his speech, Maulana said Allah has promised that if we remained firm on the Right Path, we will get success.

The session is being attended by state presidents of Jamaat and other office bearers and will continue on Tuesday.
