Violence in Assam and Efforts to Spread Communal Tension

September 1, 2012

It is very unfortunate that Assam government has failed to stop violence which has been continuing for the last more than one month. The number of people being killed is increasing daily.

This dangerous situation, on the one hand, is increasing the sense of insecurity among the linguistic minorities especially Muslims of Assam and other parts of country, and on the other hand, communal elements and those parties which believe in spreading hate to achieve political benefits, are spreading hatred and fear in the whole country.

These political parties are openly making the false propaganda that Assamese Muslims are Bangladeshis or foreigners and through this they are stoking the fire of hatred in the whole country. In this respect anti-social and communal elements misused the social media sites and succeeded in creating fear psychosis and sense of insecurity in Bangalore and other cities which affected lakhs of people and cores of people became the victims of hate and misunderstandings.

The Jamaat considers that these events are a part of conspiracy to gain political benefits. The Jamaat demands that this false propaganda should be stopped, life, honor and property of every citizen should be protected and rehabilitation of about five lakh uprooted persons in their houses should be expedited. It also demands that the sum of Rs. 300 crore sanctioned by the centre should be properly and judiciously spent and the confidence of Muslim minority should be restored. Besides, those who played the nefarious game of bloodshed, arson, and uprooting of innocent people, should be brought to justice and exemplary punishment should be given to them.

It is worth reminding that 3000 innocent men women and children were mercilessly killed in 1983 Nelli massacre. But the state government had withdrawn all cases. Likewise, no one among the killers of 2000 Sikhs murdered in 1984 anti-Sikh riots has been punished till now. The same attitude was adopted in the case of Babri Masjid demolition and the ensuing anti-Muslim riots. The perpetrators of those killings are yet to be brought to book. It is against justice and supremacy of law that killers and tyrants are not punished and go scot free. This is very dangerous for the future of country.

2. Cancer of corruption

It is a matter of grave concern that India is being branded as a corrupt country. Since independence no month passes when some major corruption case does not come to light. From top to bottom politicians, public servants and clerks are found guilty of corruption. It is painful that now fingers are being raised even on judiciary. Corruption has assumed the proportion of national cancer. Our laws and judicial system have failed to solve the problem of widespread corruption.

Recent years brought to light the big incidents of corruption in Common Wealth Games management, then came the 2-G spectrum scam. Now a big issue has come up with CAG report about improper dealings allocation of coal blocks popularly known as Coalgate. Unfortunately common man has accepted corruption as a fact of day to day life and thinks that neither he nor Government can move an inch without corrupt practices.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind thinks that to solve this complicated problem ethical methods in addition to administrative and judicial methods should be used. The Jamaat has been stressing all along that the true role of religion should be emphasized that religion means man’s correct relation with God and a just and proper solution of human problems. True religion rejects materialism and promotes fear of God and sense of responsibility.

The Jamaat wants that well-wishers and thinkers of country and religious people should come forward to fight the cancer of corruption. Regarding the on-going stalemate in parliament about Coalgate the proper path is debate. Stalling parliament proceeding is not a solution of this problem and a bad omen for our democracy.

3. Dangerous situation in Syria

People all over the world, who respect human and moral values, are greatly perturbed over the grim situation prevailing in Syria. They demand that Bashar Al-Asad, who has been heaping atrocities on his countrymen, should immediately resign and pave the way for change of rule so that peace maybe restored.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind deeply feels that Syria is in the grip of bloodshed because of one man’s lust for power, hereditary rule and atrocious behavior. Hundreds of people are being killed daily in Syria adding to the list of crimes of Bashar Al- Asad.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind sympathizes, in these difficult times, with the people of Syria and demands that the ruling clique should immediately end its war against its people, stop atrocities on them and pave the way for transfer of power to people.

The Jamaat appeals to the Islamic World to use its good offices to translate into action the decision of recent Makkah Summit Conference, to put an end to the internecine bloodshed, so that justice and democracy may be established there.

4. Court Judgment about Naroda Patiya killings

Jamaat–e-Islami Hind welcomes the special court’s judgment on killings of 95 people in Naroda Patiya in 2002 .This has increased the confidence of Indian Muslims in the judicial system of the country.

Jamaat feels that the criminals should have been given more stringent and deterrent punishments. Even now it is necessary that thorough investigation should be undertaken to unearth the big kingpins behind the bloodshed so that nobody can dare repeating such crimes in future. After this judgment Narendra Modi government has lost its moral ground to govern. It’s expected that this judgment will strengthen the foundations of justice in the country and help in stopping communal riots.
