New Delhi, 14 March: The President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), Syed Sadatullah Hussaini addressed a press conference along with representatives of “We the People of India” and “Alliance Against CAA-NRC-NPR”. The press meet was in response to the Home Minister’s statement in the Parliament on the NPR.

The JIH President said: “The poor and marginalized will suffer if there is an NRC, as NPR is the first step towards NRC, we boycott it. The NRC should be delinked from NPR, this is a natural outcome of what the Home Minister said in Parliament. If the NPR Rules are amended by the government to delink NRC from NPR then we will participate in the NPR exercise. If the NPR Rules are not amened to delink the NRC from NPR then the assurances of the Home Minister do not have any practical significance and we will boycott NPR. Census is a very important process and very useful for policy-making. The census must not be linked to NPR, if NPR and Census are clubbed then even the Census will be impacted because of the boycott of NPR and we will not get correct data. Jamaat-e-Islami Hind supports the declaration made here regarding the boycott of NPR.”
