Jamaat spends Rs. 50 millions on first phase of rehabilitation works

BTC head Hagrama Mohilary assures Jamaat leader Shafi Madani to rehabilitate all displaced persons

In a crucial development in Assam, top leaders of Bodoland Territorial Council (BTC) have assured leaders of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind that all the victims who were displaced by the rioters, will be rehabilitated soon at their native villages in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD).

Leaders of Jamaat and BTC recently met and discussed measures to accelerate rehabilitation of the victims. BTC leaders praised the humanitarian work of Jamaat, proposed a joint peace march and a joint delegation to UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi for increasing relief and compensation amount.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has been working for peace and unity among Bodo, Muslim and other communities of the riot affected area under BTAD of Assam since the conflict arose mid last year. Jamaat has carried extensive relief and rehabilitation work in last 6 months. It has also been working for lasting peace and stability in the area.

As part of the mission, a delegation of Jamaat led by Muhammad Shafi Madani, all India secretary of Social Service Department of Jamaat, and the in-charge of Assam Relief Works met with Mr. Hagrama Mohilary, Chief Executive of BTC at Bodoland People’s Front (BPF) Head Office at Kokrajhar. Mr. Madani was accompanied with Md. Shams Ahmed, field in-charge of Assam Relief Works and other regional leaders of Jamaat. While, Mr. Mohilary was accompanied with his senior colleagues and Mr. Bishwajit Daimary, Member of Rajya Sabha of BPF.

The discussion was held in a friendly and passionate atmosphere. Both Jamaat and Bodo leaders discussed measures to accelerate rehabilitation and relief works. They put emphasis on the need of people-to-people contact.

Mr. Shafi Madani expressed his willingness to felicitate riot affected Bodo students along with Muslim students. He sought cooperation of BTAD administration for this. The BTAD chief has assured the Jamaat leader full cooperation. Mr. Madani expressed his willingness to translate the book “The Life of Prophet Muhammad (SWT) by Prof. Ramakrishna Rao into Bodo language. In this regard, Mr. Hagrama assured Jamaat leaders of his full cooperation.

Jamaat’s relief works in Assam till now

 Since last six months, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has been conducting relief work under the banner of Assam Relief Works in the riot-affected area of BTAD in Assam with a vision for permanent peace and stability and with the mission of coexistence and unity among the different communities of this area. Jamaat has already distributed utensils, clothes, sarees, lungis, blankets, tarpaulin, tents and food items. Moreover, Jamaat has organized hundreds of medical camps and distributed books and notebooks among riot affected students of BTAD area.

First phase of Jamaat’s rehabilitation work in BTAD area

At present, about 350 houses are being constructed in various villages. The cost of each house is about Rs. 85000/-. The construction of 8 mosques is going on and about 500 houses and 14 mosques are being repaired.

700 hand pumps have been erected in the various localities and now 400 more hand pumps will be erected soon. 45000 blankets distributed among 25000 families priced Rs. 80 lakhs and woollen clothes for children and women were distributed among 10,000 families.

94 Makatib (religious schools) are run by the Jamaat in villages and about 5000 children are studying there. 147 students of junior high school have been admitted in residential schools and 450 students of higher education adopted. Jamaat adopted two schools in two different villages. Jamaat has provided livelihood to so many families and also cultivated 1000 Bigha land and gave seeds to farmers. Jamaat purchased 1.5 acre land for the proposed hostel and women’s empowerment centre. Jamaat constructed a bridge of bamboo on the river in Saragaon village and also repaired two roads of the villages. In this first phase rehabilitation project, Jamaat spent Rs. 5 millions on all these works.
