New Delhi, July 19: Jamaat-e-Islami Hind on Tuesday strongly condemned the brutal assault of some Dalit youths in Gujarat and demanded the state government to arrest the culprits and ensure full justice to the families of the victims.                                                                                                                                                                                 

“We are saddened with the news that four persons of the Dalit community were stripped and brutally assaulted by members of a cow vigilante group in Una town of Gir Somnath district in Gujarat for allegedly skinning a dead cow. Media reports along with video evidence being circulated in social media shows members of the cow vigilante group chaining the victims with a vehicle and beating them up mercilessly. This is highly condemnable act and the attackers must be brought to book,” said Mohammad Salim Engineer, Secretary General, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind.                                                                                                                                                                                 

“We demand the state government of Gujarat to immediately arrest all the culprits who assaulted members of the Dalit community and award full compensation to the victims’ families. The government must put a check on cow vigilante groups who, in the name of cow protection, are taking law into their hands and consequently endangering the law and order and communal harmony in the society,” added the JIH Secretary General.
