Jamaat’s Secretary General strongly condemns Dalit killings

New Delhi, 22 Oct 2015: Mohammad Salim Engineer, Secretary General, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, has strongly condemned the killing of a Dalit family in Haryana. In a video statement, he said that fascist forces are creating an atmosphere of hatred against Dalits and Muslims in the entire country, which is very dangerous and making a shameful image of the country in the world.

Transcription of the video statement:

For the past few days, an atmosphere of specific violence has been created in the country. It is extremely distressing and cause of big concern that in the name of cow, a particular community is being attacked. Dalits are also being attacked.  Last month, a 90-year Dalit was burnt alive while entring a temple in Hamirpur of Uttar Pradesh. Two days back, a Dalit family was attacked in Faridabad district of Haryana. Their house was set afire killing two innocent children and seriously wounding their parents. The mother of the kids is fighting for life at Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi.

In view of the chain of such incidents, Jamaat-e-Islami Hind thinks that the country is going on a wrong path. Those whose responsibility is to maintain law and order are not executing their duty properly. Fascist and communal forces are creating and spreading an atmosphere of hatred against Dalits and Muslims in the entire country. This is a very dangerous thing being enacted in the country. This is creating a very bad and shameful image of the country in the world.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind is deeply concerned over it and expresses solidarity and sympathy with the victims. Jamaat demands the government to take immediate and strong action to send a message that those who take law unto their hands and resort to fascist ways are discouraged and such incidents do not recur.
