Police barbarity on Jamia students a blot on humanity – JIH Secretary General

February 11, 2020

New Delhi: The Secretary General of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), T Arif Ali has condemned the brutal violence on Jamia students and protestors. He visited some of the protestors in Al-Shifa Hospital along with other leaders of Jamaat. T Arif Ali also came down heavily against the shameful molestation of students in Gargi College.

In a statement issued to the media, the JIH Secretary General said, “Jamaat-e-Islami Hind condemns the brutal violence perpetrated on the Jamia Millia Islamia students yesterday by the Delhi Police, as they were taking out a protest march against the CAA-NRC. We especially condemn how the Delhi Police attacked women protestors and girl students by kicking and beating them in their vulnerable and private parts in a bid to traumatize and scar them both physically and mentally. This is police barbarity at its worst and no civilized society can tolerate this type of policing. Police atrocities and unleashing such savagery at the voices of dissent and protests are a blot not only on democracy but also on humanity. Jamaat also condemns the shameful incident that happened in Gargi College on the 6th February. The episode of girl students of a premier college of DU in the heart of the nation’s capital being molested by gangs of middle-aged men who were ferried in trucks and buses to the college is extremely disgusting and sickening. Allegations by girl students that the police did nothing to prevent this shameful incident are very serious and if true point to a complete dereliction of duty.”

The statement of the Jamaat Secretary General concluded by saying: “The incidents in Jamia and Gargi College show that our girls are no longer safe in the nation’s capital and can be attacked by both the police and anti-social elements without any fear of being reprimanded or booked. The perpetrators of JNU are still at large and not a single arrest has been made. The Home Minister has lost all moral authority to continue in office. Jamaat demands a high-level inquiry into both the incidents and hopes the guilty will not go unpunished no matter how highly placed they might be.”
