Bihar Flood Relief Work in Progress

The relief work done by Jamaat-e-Islaami Hind Bihar for the the flood affected people has been going on since last 4 months. Jamaat is now planning to construct permanent  houses for the displaced people Apart from emplying them under different schemes and programmes. Due to heavy breach in the reservoir of kosi canal on 18 August 2008 about 250 square kilometer area of Supol, Araria, Madhepura and Purnia Districs of Bihar State was suddenly by the rush of water of Kosi canal and since then the local workers of JIH along with SIO and Friends Youth Club together took up the relief work. The flood turned devastating due to torrential rain pour also.The entire population of flood effected areas had to take shelter in many places. Jamat-e-Islami Hind immideatly took steps for relief work. Soon men, women and children was rescued from water who were taking shelter on roofs tops or on trees and were brought to relief camps. And in very crucial circumstances and very hurried arrangement of food and shelter was done by  JIH As many as twenty wooden boats were arranged for rescue operation by the Jamaat.

About 13000/- flood effected persons (men, women, and children) were in relief camps for continuous three months.

Delegation of Jamat-e-Islami Hind, Bihar time to time met the local district administration brought in their knowledge regarding bad condition of government relief camps and in this regard the delegation also met the Chief Minister of Bihar and appraised him regarding  the very bad condition and mis management of relief camp run by the government.

For the solace of flood affected people the jamaat in collusion with social activist of “KOSI NAVNIRMAN MANCH’ time to time made DHARNA to attRact the government and administration regarding mismanagement of relief work and also pressed the administration to tone up the relief work in different flood relief camps.

On 11/12.10.2008, the Shur’a of Jamat-e-Islami hind Bihar Zone met in Araria and on that occasion the members were apprised of the relief work done so far and till that  day a total expenditure was calculated and the amount was Rs. 21,58000/- In addition to this amount (Rs. 21,58000) relief of cloth, food grains milk mats were also distributed by the jamaat by the local people which was estimeted as worth Rs. 30, lakhs. On Shorra of halka Bihar direction survey is continuing.

Following works have been accomplished.

(i) In winter season distribution of blankets: in this regard 5000 blankets distributed and further 5000 blankets are required to be distributed
(ii) Arrangements have been made to distribute warn cloth for 250 children
(iii) 300 houses have been repaired and 500 houses are to bee repaired immediately
(iv) 220 quintals of rice have been distributed so far
(v) 27 girls were  helped in there marriages.
(vi) 81 boys & girls student were specially helped  achieve there further education
(vii) In four places arrangements of pre matriculation examination  was done
(viii) As many as 48 persons were helped in order to earn their livelihood themselves.
(ix) 51tube wells were arranged for clean water in different palaces of flood affected areas
(x) As many as 71 persons who were suffering from different diseases were treated .

Total expenditure of aforesaid relief work is about 2500000-

(i) In the holy month of Ramzan in 71 mosque in different villages for 5000 people were arranged which included meals also. No political or religious body took any interest.
(ii) So far about 1000 quintals rice has been distributed among them
(iii) id Kit (Sari Saya, Kurta, Shalwar suits  etc.) were distributed among 5000 Muslims. Rs 200 to elder and Rs 10 to children were also distributed on Eid
(iv) 3000 Torches and 3000 Tarpaulin (Plain) were distributed.
(v) Four Medical Van equipped with Medicine were deployed for four continious months.
(vi) 3000 people were given on the Occasion  of Durga Puja kits Containing Dhoti , Kurta , Sari , Saya Pants Shelwer suits sweets were distributed.
